The main objective of the paper is to analyze the position of Thailand in the world sugar market to identify the most significant changes which appeared in the area of sugar production and trade in Thailand during the last decades. The main ambition is to highlight especially those events which strengthened the position of Thailand in the world sugar market. Based on the results of the paper we can see that Thailand significantly increased its sugar and sugar cane production capacities. This growth did not affect bioethanol production. Significant support from the government enabled construction of new production capacities and stabilized domestic sugar market. The stabilization of national market enabled an increase in production and the current production capacities are much higher in comparison with domestic consumption. Thailand became a significant exporter of sugar and confectioneries. Thai sugar was able to get a significant position in the global market and Thailand maintains a significant comparative advantage not only in the area of sugar production, but especially in the area of trade in sugar, not only in relation to global market, but especially in relation to regional market. … celý popis
